Ministry 101 – Don’t lower your standard

Have you ever thought you might feel good if you could say things or act out in the way some people do to react to their frustration? Of course, you have. But you know the Holy Spirit who lives in you won’t permit you to do that. Instead, He gives you and helps you to have self-control. The challenge for you is whether you obey that nudge or go ahead and let your flesh takes over your mind and emotion.

Ministry, God, Jesus, Battle, ArmorEvery Christ-follower is experiencing that struggle right now. It is twice much harder when you are in ministry. We are all human, and you’ll have the moments when you feel like you want to say exactly what’s in your mind and get done with it. But you know you can’t.

How do you respond when someone screaming at your face or talking wrong about you behind your back? Shall you give them a piece of your mind? No. You must remember who you are representing with your action. Don’t lower your standard from God’s Word for your life.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. – Ephesians 6:10-12 ESV

The devil is looking for opportunities to drag you down to his level. He wants you to say things or act out just like those who don’t follow Christ. If he is fighting a war against you, you need to put on the armor of God every day of your life. Did you notice the words, “Put on?” You have to make a choice every morning or in every circumstance to put on the armor of God. The armor of God is the only thing that can keep your attitude in check.

What would you do when the schemes of the devil come against you?

1. Stand firm!

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. – Ephesians 6:13 ESV

Don’t forget who you are and who you are serving. Take up the WHOLE armor of God!

2. Protect your faith with the shield of faith and the sword

In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God – Ephesians 6:16-17 ESV

God is fighting for you. You need to stand on what you know about God and His word. Believing is power!

3. Keep on praying

praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,  and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak. – Ephesians 6:18-20 ESV

Your prayer invites God into the battle you are facing. You need His power to win the spiritual battle. Remember, you are nothing without Christ. You can do all things in Him.
