There’s not even one person on the earth that is not feeling uncertain today. Do you worry about tomorrow or the future? Do you feel shaken by the chaos in the world? Do you have a hard time finding the ground you can stand on?
Even though you hope to see the second coming of Jesus, it’s not comfortable to live through the troubled time. But it’s impossible to see that glorious day without experiencing the chaos as the bible says. So if the chaos of this world is something that you need to live through, how can you survive it?
First, you must remember that you, as a Christ-follower, you don’t belong to this world. You might live on the earth physically, but your citizenship is in heaven.
But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ – Philippians 3:20 ESV
So what does that mean to your life right now? It means that you can’t live, talk, or respond to the things around you like you belong to this world. The challenge is to respond like who you belong to, which is Christ, your King. If you belong to the Heavenly King, you are a citizen of another kingdom. You don’t belong to the kingdom of this world.
So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God – Ephesians 2:19 ESV
You speak of a language where you were born and raised. You learned how to live a life with the culture you have grown in. In the same matter, if you were born again in God’s kingdom, you should be speaking the language of heaven and act in the heavenly culture.
Sure, it’s never easy for you to act like a heavenly citizen when people around you are screaming in fear, anger, and frustration. Even when you feel shaken by uncertainty, you must choose to respond like a citizen of heaven.
But why is that so important?
1. You represent your King
and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak. – Ephesians 6:19-20 ESV
The people in the world seem as if they lost their minds. But they are still watching you as a Christ-follower and how you’ll respond to the things that shake your life. You need to be different and stand out.
2. God hasn’t changed at all
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. – Hebrews 13:8 ESV
You serve unchanging God. He knows from the beginning to the end, and He sees your coming and going. There’s nothing that surprises Him or takes away His control. You need to live like you believe what you say you believe.
3. Darkness can’t overcome the light
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. – John 1:1-5 ESV
God is with you. No matter how this world becomes dark, the light of the world, Jesus is with you. He holds everything together, and you’ll never fall out of His hands.
