Ministry 101 – Sink or swim

Faith, God, Jesus, Bible, MinistryLiving by faith is more challenging than talking about it sometimes. Faith isn’t a fuzzy feeling to live through every day. But it takes your action to jump into the things that you don’t know the outcome. It’s a “sink or swim” decision. The bible says,

14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. – James 2:14-26 NIV

Faith isn’t something that you talk about it and hope for the best. It requires your action. When God asks you to do something, He doesn’t give you all the detail or reasons. Many things that He will bring to your path don’t make any sense to you. You know in your heart that God is good, and He is your Heavenly Father. He is your protector. But you want to know “Why, How and When.” Fear of taking a risk always fights your faith. God-sized ministry takes the risk. Until you jump into the pool, you won’t find out sink or swim. I know you don’t want to sink, but you won’t find out that until you jump in.

The Word of God says, “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” How is your faith today? Is it dead or alive? Nobody said you wouldn’t have any fear, and God knows that. The bible says, “Fear not” 365 times. He knows you need to face fear every day to live a life of faith.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9 NIV

If you really know God is with you, would you take a risk for sink or swim? The bible says that you need to have a mustered seed-sized faith to move the mountain. But it sure feels like it needs to be bigger than that. But that’s what God asks of you.

So how can you take the risk of sink or swim?

1. Knowing that all things are possible with God

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” – Matthew 19:26 NIV

2. That’s your life decision to please God

For we live by faith, not by sight. – 2 Corinthians 5:7 NIV

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. – Hebrews 11:6 NIV

3. You trust God’s power

so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power. – 1 Corinthians 2:5 NIV

God will never let you fall. Trust Him!
